Puscifer

  Maynard James Keenan, musician, actor, wine-maker, and all around demi-god has released a new EP.  His band Puscifer, largely just a side-project that acts as Maynard's conduit for his solo work.  While it's been out for a few weeks, it wasn't until this morning, fresh off a trip to Maynard's stores in Jerome, AZ, that I had a chance to listen to it.

  AMAZING.

  All five tracks are phenomenal.  There are no other words to describe what I would call a tremendous demonstration of Maynard showing off his vocal talents once again, but a great example of the very best of his solo output.  From the newish track 'Polar Bear' to a near acoustic live version of 'Momma Sed', I'm in love and listening to all my Puscifer albums and remixes again.  Say what you want about the man, but he has yet to disappoint this fan.

You've all seen (and cried about) the trailer. Now it's time to hear (and cry about?) Karen O & the Kids' Where The Wild Things Are soundtrack. Like the first single "All Is Love" suggested, the collection has a dreamy childlike feel to it. As we mentioned, though, Karen's Kids include Brian Chase and Nick Zinner, Bradford Cox, and two Raconteurs in addition to that cutesy children's choir, so not everything here -- a noisy guitar riff, a sad ballad, etc. -- is necessarily for (or by) the little ones.

Considering all the new music we have to sort through so far in the 21st century, we've sure been focusing an awful lot lately on two of the biggest stars of the 20th. Decades after their respective popular peaks, recent events reminded us, neither the Beatles nor Michael Jackson have loosened their grip on our imagination. Yet one particular thing I noticed amidst the nostalgia surrounding the latest (and likely last) Beatles CD reissues, and Jackson's sudden passing was a sense of resignation that the eras within which both stars emerged seem highly unlikely to happen again. The Beatles, in 1963-64 and 1967, and Michael Jackson in 1983-4 arguably represented for pop music what World Cups, the Olympics, and Super Bowls do for sports, and what blockbuster summer hits do for movies: the ability to command everyone's attention at once.

New Radiohead Track Leaked!

It looks like a new Radiohead track has leaked. On the At Ease Message Board a track surfaced with the title ‘These Are My Twisted Words’.

The five and half minute long song is instrumental for the first half and then Thom Yorke’s voice kicks in. The source file of the track is accompanied with a cryptic message (below), listing the genre as ‘difficult’ and more interestingly a release date of August 17th 2009. It also states that this song is from a one-track advance cd.
